More Americans are sharing apartments with other adults to save money as rent continues to climb, Zillow.com reports.
In 2012, 32 percent of American adults lived in a home where two or more adults live together but aren’t married or romantic partners.  Just 25.4 percent of adults lived in a similar situation in 2000.
This increase in doubled-up households has happened as rent continues to rise across the country. People earning the national median income of $53,216 are likely to spend almost 30 percent of their monthly income on rent, which is the highest in history.  Many are choosing to share with roommates rather than downsize their living space or move to a cheaper area.
