Having friends over for a party can be fun, but the mess that you have to face the next day certainly isn’t! Check out About.com’s
tips for cleaning after a party and host away without the fear of the cleaning hangover.
Before the party even starts, make your clean up easier by closing doors to rooms you want to keep off limits to your guests and by storing items you’re worried about getting damaged or broken in one of those rooms. Put paper towels in easily accessible locations so you can wipe up any spills made during the party quickly and put out clearly labeled trash and recycling bins so guests can do some of the work for you! Also designate the food and drink surfaces so most of the crumbs and spills will stay there.
As soon as you get up in the morning, do a quick check of your house to make sure no one stayed behind. If there is someone, help them and get them on their way. If it’s a good friend and you’re okay with it, let them sleep.
Tackle the easy stuff first by collecting bottles, cans and plastic cups. Throw away until left over liquid and then recycle the containers. If there are spills on the counter, go ahead and wipe them up. Stubborn spills may need to spend some time soaking covered in water or cleaning solution.
Next collect all the dishes and put them in the dishwasher or in the sink if you don’t have a dishwasher, allowing the dishes to soak while you clean some more.
Go through your #apartment
, room by room, and wipe down all the surfaces with an all-purpose cleaner and microfiber cloth or sponge. If stains are deeper, baking soda and vinegar or more potent cleaners may be necessary.
Visit all the rooms the party took place in again and straighten up. That probably means putting furniture, pillows, and objects back where they belong.
Your floors will probably need at least a good vacuuming, but if there were a lot of spills, go ahead and mop as well.
Now it’s time to return to those dishes. Unload the dishwasher and start a new load or hand wash the ones in the sink.
Finally, it’s time for the bathroom. Clean as you normally would, plus restock the toilet paper and put in a new hand towel.
Now collapse and enjoy your newly cleaned apartment!
